According to local media reports, Bridgestone Firestone is in the final phase of construction of its US$160m plant in Camacari, in the northeastern Brazilian state of Bahia. It will launch in October 2006.
The plant will reach capacity of 8,000 tyres per day in mid-2007. A little over half of the plant’s output will be earmarked for the Brazilian aftermarket, 23% will be delivered to local carmakers and some 22% will be exported to the Americas, the company said.
The plant might boost its production to 24,000 tyres per day with the aim to meet an eventual hike in domestic tyre demand.
It will be the second Bridgestone Firestone’s plant in Brazil. The first one is located in Santo Andre, in the southeastern state of Sao Paulo.
