
BMW Manufacturing set a new production record in 2019 with 411,620 X SUVs produced, topping the previous record by 449 units (411,171 in 2016).
The South Carolina plant remained the largest plant by volume in the group's global production network. 2019's output:
- X3: 115,088
- X4: 65,557
- X5: 161,096
- X6: 17,260
- X7: 52,619
Since 2017, the Spartanburg plant has launched five X models, four Motorsport X models and two electrified vehicles.
"The past three years have been among the most challenging in the history of Plant Spartanburg," said BMW manufacturing head Knudt Flor.
Last year, 159,277 X models produced at Spartanburg were sold in the US, accounting for 49% of all BMW brand US sales. The top two models were the X3 and X5.
Since 1994, BMW has produced 4.8m units in the US and spent $10.6bn on the plant.
Spartanburg produces 1,500 vehicles a day, exporting about 70% to 125 markets.
The factory has production capacity of 450,000 vehicles and employs 11,000 people.
