BMW’s Regensburg factory in Germany has built its millionth X1, the company’s smallest SUV (in BMW-speak it’s a ‘Sports Activity Vehicle’).

X1 was the first electric model made at the plant in November 2022.

The flexible factory makes combustion engine, plug in hybrid and electric variants on a single production line.

Later this year Regensburg will start making the electric iX2 for the high volume compact class.

“Electromobility is a growth driver for our plant. We are currently operating at full capacity and hope this trend will continue,” said plant manager Carsten Regent.

BMW had previously announced a EUR350m investment for the plant by the end of 2023 which would add 500 permanent jobs.
