The new Spartanburg-made BMW X6 SUV is available to order now in UK.

The third generation of this big SUV uses an evolution of the platform which debuted with 2015’s BMW 7 Series. Length is up by 26mm to 4,935mm. It also has a 42mm longer wheelbase.

As well as US build, there should be additional assembly in Russia at AvtoTOR’s Kaliningrad plant.

Among the equipment improvements, adaptive LED headlights are standard, while options include the BMW Laserlight long-range non-dazzle system and an illuminated front grille.

Three equipment grades will be available at launch: Sport, M Sport and M Performance.

M Sport adds a range of specific trim and styling details over the entry-level grade, while M Performance adds features such as a sportier suspension and differential, and a Harman Kardon surround sound system.

Standard equipment across the range includes: climate control, electrically adjustable and heated front seats, ambient interior lighting, front and rear parking sensors, a rear view camera, dynamic damper control and the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant with ‘Hey BMW’ voice control.

Standard driver assistance systems include cruise control with braking function, autonomous emergency braking with cyclist detection and a self-parking function.

There’s also reversing assistant, which can automatically retrace the car’s path for up to 50 metres when backing up.

There are four engine options at launch: two diesels, with 265hp and 400hp; and two petrols, with 340hp and 530hp.

Provisional fuel economy and CO2 emissions figures are: 42.8mpg-46.3mpg and 172g/km-159g/km for the 265hp diesel; 39.2mpg-40.9mpg and 190g/km-181g/km for the 400hp diesel; 32.8mpg-35.3mpg and 197g/km-181g/km for the 340hp petrol; and 26.4mpg-27.2mpg and 243g/km-237g/km for the 530hp petrol.

Eight-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive are standard with all engines.

Prices for the range in Britain start at GBP59,340, and the first deliveries are expected from November.
