Toyota has chosen the UK as the location for a new, £11.2 million production training centre.

The E-GPC (European – Global Production training Centre) will provide production and maintenance skills training to the employees of the automaker’s European manufacturing operations.

The E-GPC will be located within the grounds of Toyota’s vehicle manufacturing plant in Burnaston, Derbyshire (which builds the Avensis and Corolla).

A purpose-built, 8,000m2 training facility will be constructed and will begin operations in January 2006. The new facility will employ 15 trainers who will be responsible for training up to 1,000 employees each year.

“Shinichi Sasaki, president and CEO of Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing Europe, said: “This… continues Toyota’s policy of localisation in Europe, which includes a European design centre, eight manufacturing plants and a dedicated R&D facility.”
