Toyota Motor Europe Marketing and Engineering (TMME) reports an ‘all-time record’ 204,353 units sold in the period from January to March 2002, an increase of some 15% over the first quarter of 2001.

TMME says that it also posted all-time record European unit sales for the month of March, with 85,791 units sold – an increase of 17% over the same month last year. The company says that its March performance gave it a record 4.7 % market share in Europe, up from 3.8% in 2001.
TMME’s market share for the first three months reached 4.5%, up from 3.7 % last year – another record.
Toyota’s RAV4 (9,703 units) and Yaris (28,715 units) models posted record sales, with a 121% and 30% increase respectively over March 2001 sales. Sales for the new Toyota Corolla totalled 19,453 units in March, adding up to 45,751 for the first quarter. Toyota says that it ‘expects monthly Corolla sales to rise even further given the well-filled order bank’.
“With such a flying start for 2002, we feel confident we will exceed the 700,000 unit sales target for this year, ” said Dr. Takis Athanasopoulos, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of TMME.
