Toyota Motor Europe has recorded a market share increase of 0.4% to 4.1% in the third quarter of this year, achieving sales of 182,981 vehicles, including luxury brand Lexus.
Year-to-date, TME sales totalled 608,620 vehicles, improving from 2010, with sales of 576,172 Toyota and 32,448 Lexus models
President and CEO , Didier Leroy said: “Our sales performance in the third quarter shows that we are on track to achieve our plans this year despite challenging conditions in the first half of 2011 following the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
“Looking at our current market feedback, despite uncertain economic conditions in Europe, we are cautiously confident in the continued improvement of our market share in the fourth quarter. We aim to improve our sales by around 20,000 units compared to 2010 by the end of the year.”
The Toyota Aygo performed strongly in the third quarter with sales of 21,488 vehicles, up 8% over the previous quarter while the redesigned Yaris is showing early promise after its debut in Belgium, France, Poland and the UK in September.
Toyota’s plant at Valenciennes in France, which assembles the Yaris, will add an extra shift starting in January 2012, creating 800 new jobs.

Lexus sales in Europe reached 32,448 units, an increase of 37% from 2010 following the successful launch of the CT 200h premium compact. The model strength was underlined by the solid fight back from the second quarter, with year to date sales totalling 12,238 units.
Toyota and Lexus brand full hybrid vehicles contributed to around 11% of TME sales. Year to date full hybrid sales reached 65,187 units, up 19% from 2010, including 46,472 Toyota and 18,715 Lexus vehicles.
