Toyota Motor Manufacturing Poland on Friday started production of a new one-litre petrol engine and manual transmission – to be used in the three new small passenger cars made jointly by Toyota and PSA Peugeot Citroën at their brand-new car assembly plant in the Czech Republic.

The jointly developed Peugeot 107, Toyota Aygo and Citroën C1 models will be launched at the Geneva motor show in March.
They will share engines (a 1.4-litre will also be available) and transmissions plus a large number of structural components, parts and sub-assemblies, The three cars do, however, have unique body styling and vary slightly in overall dimensions.

The Czech plant will have an annual production capacity of 300,000 vehicles – 200,000 for Peugeot and Citroën and 100,000 for Toyota.

The annual production capacity of TMMP for the 1.0-litre engine and manual transmission has been targeted at 250,000 units and 300,000 units respectively – bringing TMMP’s eventual total annual transmission production capacity to 550,000 units.

TMMP already builds manual transmissions for European-built Toyota vehicles with 1.3-litre to 1.8-litre engines – such as the French-built Yaris line and UK- and Turkey-built Corolla models.
