Nissan is to reduce the number of independent dealership owners in Europe.
The Japanese firm, controlled by France’s Renault, has 2700 dealer owners in Europe but plans to cut this to 600 by the end of 2005.
The dealer network will also be shared with Renault with 500 of the 600 owners operating both Nissan and Renault dealerships.
The Nissan move comes soon after Mercedes Benz announced that it is to terminate all UK dealership agreements and create a network of giant factory-owned “Mercedes experience centres”.
