Figures released by Acea show that Europe’s heavy truck market has grown sharply in the first eight months of the year.

Heavy truck sales (over 16 tonnes Gross Vehicle Weight) stood at 153,629 units in the EU in the period to the end of August, some 49% ahead of the same period last year.

The market over 3.5 tonnes GVW was up by 38.6% to 205,082 units. Light commercial vehicle sales (up to 3.5 tonnes GVW) were up by 7.7% over last year to 941,235 units.

Investment cycles in the heavy commercial vehicle market are characterised by high peaks and troughs, but the sharp upturn will provide some reassurance over levels of economic activity and trade in Europe.
