The European Commission (EC) has dropped antitrust investigations into GM and BMW, after the two companies agreed to allow their dealers and service centres to represent other marques, reported Dow Jones.

The investigations into the two companies were opened after dealers filed complaints in 2003 and 2004. GM and BMW would  not allow other makes to be sold in their showrooms while service centres were forced to buy proprietary repair equipment.

The EC fined GM €43m in 2000 for stopping dealers selling Opel cars outside of their national markets. DaimlerChrysler and Volkswagen have also been fined by the EC for antitrust violations.
