Volkswagen launched two new designed-for-China cars at Auto China 2006 in Beijing at the weekend.
The highlight of Volkswagen’s exhibition was the world premiere of the Neeza concept, a coupé/station wagon crossover. Designed in for China, the concept car is described as “opening the window to the future of new models from Shanghai Volkswagen”.
The name Neeza was derived from “Ne-zha”, a celebrated figure from Chinese history. Ne-zha was a small boy with magic weapons who fought against evil spirits.
Volkswagen also launched the large Magotan, which is based on the locally-built Passat and, according to Volkswagen, will be one of its top models in China. It goes on sale next year.
Volkswagen also launched four other new models in Beijing. They are the Concept A, which previews the fortcoming Tiguan SUV (smaller than the Toureg), the sport Golf GTi hatchback, the Eos coupe/convertible and the high-riding, pseudo-SUV CrossPolo.
