The ‘S’ is for ‘Special’ and the new version has the same 612hp (450 kW) V12 engine as the shorter 57S model launched earlier. The standard 57 and 62 models share a 550hp engine.

The new flagship Maybach is making its world debut at the Auto China 2006 international motor show in Beijing.

The 62 S is designed primarily to be chauffeur-driven. Distinguishing features include a modified front end with a redesigned radiator grille, new 20-inch wheels and modified light clusters. Like the 57S, the 62S has single-tone paintwork in black or silver, exclusive to the S models. 62S badges are on the front wings beneath the A pillars and the boot lid.

Inside, piano lacquer and carbon or anthracite poplar trim accents are featured along with a higher-grade leather upholstery.

In contrast to the stiffer and lower suspension settings used for the 57S, the 62S retains full spring travel for a ‘comfortable’ rather than ‘sporty’ ride quality, Maybach said.
