Fiat-Chrysler plans to produce Jeep SUVs in China from the end of 2015, the company announced on the eve of the Beijing show.

Production will be carried out by the company’s existing joint venture with Guangzhou Automobile Group Company, called GAC-Fiat Automobiles Company Ltd.

GAC-Fiat already operates a plant in Changsha, Hunan province, which assembles the Fiat Viaggio mid-sized saloon for the local market.

Fiat-Chrysler said it exported around 60,000 Jeep SUVs to China last year, making it the largest market for the brand outside the US. Three Jeep models are expected to be produced in China, including the latest Cherokee.
