UK automotive clean-tech firm, Avid Technology Group has appointed Mike Dowsett VP of Business Development, to lead its expansion in North America.
To capitalise on developments in vehicle electrification and clean automotive technology in the US and Canada, Dowsett will lead business growth and operations at Avid’s new US office in Michigan.
Dowsett brings more than 30 years’ automotive industry experience to Avid, having worked both in the UK and US in the hybrid, electrification and controlled power sector for a range of companies such as Visteon, FEV, Controlled Power Technologies, YASA Motors and Sevcon.
As a senior engineering manager, he led large global teams of engineers designing and developing electrification components and integrated powertrain systems for automotive as well as commercial vehicles.
His specialisation is electric motors and inverters, along with efficient electrification system design.
“They’re a highly motivated, talented team and extremely passionate about improving the efficiency of vehicles and lowering their environmental impact through systems electrification,” said Dowsett.

From its UK headquarters in the North East of England, Avid develops batteries, electric motors and powertrain components for next generation hybrid and electric vehicles across the world. Its customer base includes Tier 1 automotive suppliers and OEMs.
The company was founded by engineer and entrepreneur, Ryan Maughan in 2005 and works in systems electrification and heavy-duty vehicle electrification as well as hybridisation.
Avid Technology will officially launch its US operation at The Battery Show – North America 2018 in Michigan between 11-13 September.
The three-day conference and exhibition is the largest advanced battery technology event for battery manufacturing and vehicle electrification in the US, bringing together industry leaders, suppliers and innovators specialising in advanced battery and critical power technologies.
