Continental Automotive Technologies has partnered with semiconductor company NOVOSENSE Microelectronics for the development of automotive-grade sensors to enhance vehicle safety.
The partnership will focus on the development of automotive-grade sensor ICs (integrated circuits), with a special emphasis on functional safety.
The two companies have formalised their collaboration through a memorandum of understanding (MOU).
The products under development include key safety components such as battery pack monitors and airbag trigger systems.
Continental Automotive head of electronic purchasing Theo Brunner said: “The product roadmap of NOVOSENSE addresses our targets to set up a more diverse supply chain.
“This helps to better handle geopolitical risks and at the same time enhancing competitiveness of our safety applications.”

This collaboration comes as both companies aim to strengthen their global supply chains and expand their presence in the automotive market.

NOVOSENSE, a member of the Automotive Electronics Council (AEC), has a research and development programme. It leverages a system-level understanding of automotive electronics and a reliable product delivery supply chain to serve the global automotive industry.
The automotive ICs sector represented a third of NOVOSENSE’s global revenue, with shipments surpassing 133 million units in the first half of 2024.
Continental Automotive develops technologies and services for sustainable and connected mobility. In 2023, the company reported sales of €41.1bn and has a workforce of approximately 200,000 across 56 countries.
