The Australian Manufacturing Workers Union and the Communications, Electrical, Electronic, Energy, Information, Postal, Plumbing and Allied Services Union of Australia’s members were calling for a pay increase.

The Altonaplant and Toyota parts centres in Melbourne and Sydney were affected by the strike with more than 3,000 workers employed at the facilities.

In late July, Toyota offered a 11% wage increase over 39 months and is now offering three options for a 7% rise over 2 years along with a bonus. The unions rejected all the offers.

The Altona facility manufactures Camry V6 models called Aurion in Austra;ia as well as the I4 Camry and hybrid. The plant is gearing up to produce the redesigned model line launched recently.
