Australian new motor vehicle sales rose a seasonally adjusted 0.5% in April compared with the previous month, the Australian Bureau of Statistics said on Monday.
According to a Reuters report, 79,734 vehicles were sold in April, compared with revised March sales of 79,336, to be 4.7% lower than a year earlier. In trend terms, April sales fell 0.2% on the previous month.
The news agency noted that the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries had already reported that April sales fell 21.2% on the previous month, but that series is not seasonally adjusted. The ABS bases its report on the chamber’s industry sales data.
