As petrol prices bite, Saab is expanding its Australian line to include diesel versions of the 9-3 models.

The common rail 1.9 litre turbo diesel will be available from January.

Saab will initially offer diesel variants of the 9-3 sedan and wagon, but is also considering the diesel convertible.

The Euro 4-compliant DOHC 1.9TiD engine develops 110 kW and 320 Nm of torque.

Both six-speed automatic and manual transmissions will be offered.
