A new Ferrari and Maserati distributor for Australia and New Zealand began operations on October 1.

European Automotive Imports Pty Ltd, a subsidiary of Homebush, Sydney-based independent car importer, Ateco Automotive Pty Ltd., has taken over.

In addition to assuming control of the national distribution of Ferrari and Maserati, the company also retails the cars in Sydney and New South Wales state.

On 6 October 2005 a new Ferrari and Maserati dealership, Italia Motori, will open in William Street to provide a temporary home for the brands until the opening of a purpose-built dealership south of Sydney’s central business district in late 2006.

The service and parts departments are in the suburb of Artarmon. European Automotive Imports is also planning a sales outlet on Sydney’s North Shore.

The new importer is also planning other new independently owned dealerships and major upgrades to existing facilities to ensure that they match standards in other markets.

Claiming that Ferrari sales are limited by supply, European Automotive Imports forecasts a 30% increase in sales over the 69 Ferrari cars sold in 2004 (and 73 in 2003). The recent launch of the F430 Spider, the arrival of the Superamerica this month and an increase in sales of the F612 Scaglietti should help.

A planned 30% boost in Maserati sales will be achieved with the arrival of new versions of the Gransport and Quattroporte, the new importer said.
