GM unit Holden has begun recruiting for 50 new production roles at it plant in Elizabeth, South Australia but the jobs are only temporary.
Holden manufacturing operations executive director Martyn Cray said the new hires would start in November and would join the afternoon shift which resumes on 15 November.
“The recruitment is good news for the manufacturing industry in South Australia and shows we are turning the corner this year,” Cray said.
“There’s a real sense of excitement at Elizabeth – we started building Series II Commodore this week and we’re very happy with all the work being done to introduce Holden Cruze to the production line early next year.”
The Cruze will be the only locally-built small car in Australia when it goes into production in the first quarter of 2011. It will be available initially as a sedan with the newly unveiled hatch following later in the year – each will be available with I4 petrol and diesel engines.
