Audi's US unit has named Matt Carpenter CEO of mobility subsidiary Silvercar.

In his role, effective 1 August, he will integrate business operations between Audi of America and Silvercar, steering new business model initiatives, and heading Silvercar's business units at its headquarters in Austin, Texas as well as across the US.

"We're excited for this important next step in the Audi mobility strategy," said Cian O'Brien, interim president and chief operating officer, Audi of America.

"Matt brings vital business and leadership experience to the role, but also a customer-centric perspective."

Carpenter, 39, joined Audi of America in 2007 as a business management consultant in Auburn Hills, Michigan, and later as vehicle merchandising manager in Herndon, Virginia. In 2011, having been recently appointed GM vehicle sales, heplayed a key role in the original partnership between Audi and Silvercar.

Audi led the series C investment round in 2015 and completed the full acquisition in 2017. In 2018, Carpenter was appointed to the Silvercar board of directors by Audi AG and later named interim CEO in December 2018. He currently serves as chief financial officer for Audi of America.

Carpenter has also held positions at VW Credit in Auburn Hills, Michigan and Audi in Ingolstadt, Germany. Before Audi, he held various positions at Ford.

Silvercar helps Audi strengthen its platforms to serve the evolving mobility needs of the US marketplace. The two companies have worked together since 2012, developing and delivering innovative consumer mobility offerings under different brands, including Silvercar by Audi and Audi select. The company employs about 300 people.

Christian Fischer will replace Carpenter as head of finance for Audi of America, reporting to Elmar Licharz, CFO, VW Group of America, effective 1 September, 2019.
