PSA Peugeot Citroën has begun production of the new Peugeot 307 sedan at the group’s plant in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The 307 was originally launched in hatchback and wagon forms but a sedan went into production in China in 2004.
PSA said the new sedan body style for Latin America will enhance Peugeot’s offering in the mid-range segment, which represents a third of the Argentine market and a quarter of the Latin American market.
The 307 sedan is the fifth model produced at the Buenos Aires plant, where the Peugeot 206, 307 hatchback, Partner and the Citroën Berlingo are already manufactured.
The new car will be introduced in Argentina in July 2006 and gradually rolled out in Brazil and other Latin American markets by October.

By GlobalDataThe full-year sales target is 22,000 units across the region.
The production start-up of the new sedan marks a new phase in the group’s 2005-2007 manufacturing programme in Argentina.
Totalling ARS450m (ER120m), the programme involves the introduction of new vehicles, an increase in car production at the Buenos Aires plant and of mechanical component output at the Jeppener facility, and a significant increase in local content.
In all, it is expected to create more than 1,000 jobs.
Peugeot Citroën Argentina currently employs nearly 3,900 people. With the production start-up of the 307 sedan, output will rise to almost 100,000 units a year. This compares with 1,500 people and 17,800 units at the end of 2002.
The expansion of the group’s Argentine production base is being driven by a favourable outlook for the Latin American new car market and strong sales of Peugeot and Citroën models in the region.
For the first five months of 2006, PSA Peugeot Citroën sales are up 29% to nearly 29,000 units in Argentina, in a market up 19%. Market share stands at 14.6%.
In Brazil for the same period, group registrations amount to 37,600 vehicles, up 38% in a market up just 10%, giving the group a 5.6% market share.
