American Honda Motor Company Inc announced last week it will voluntarily recall around 720,000 vehicles due to potential fuel pump leaks. The US unit of Japanese automaker Honda Motor confirmed that it will invite owners of certain 2023-2025 Honda Accord, CR-V Hybrid and Honda Civic models for a free inspection and, if necessary, replace the fuel pump if defects are found.
The company said in a statement: “Due to a defective high-pressure fuel pump core, cracks may form inside the fuel pump. During vehicle operation, these cracks can grow leading to possible fuel leaks, fuel smell while idling or driving”, adding that there is a risk of “fire, crash or injury”.
The company said it will contact the owners of the affected models by mail in December, asking them to take their vehicles to an authorized Honda dealer. The company has also provided a contact number for concerned owners, or they can visit www.recalls.honda.com, to check if their vehicles are affected.
