New Zealand's Motor Industry Association said registrations of 11,631 new vehicles in July 2017 were up marginally by 0.5% year on year.
Year to date, however, the new vehicle sector was 12.6% ahead with 90,737 registrations.
Passenger car and SUV registrations dipped 1% to 7,605 units but commercial vehicle sales rose 4.3% to 4,026.
Toyota remained overall market leader with a 16% market share followed by Ford (10%) and Mazda (9%).
The brand also topped passenger and SUV registrations with 13% share followed by Mazda (11%) and Mitsubishi (8%). The top selling models were the Kia Sportage, Mazda CX-5 and Mitsubishi Outlander.
Toyota topped commercial sales with its 21% share ahead of Ford (19%) with GM's Holden a distant third (9%).

By GlobalDataYet again, top selling models for the month were all light commercials. Ford's Ranger with 655 units had a one unit lead over its arch rival Toyota Hilux while the Mitsubishi Triton accounted for 342. Year to date, the top three were Ranger, Hilux and Holden Colorado, all pickup trucks or 'utes' as they are known locally.
SUVs and Utes (Pick Up/Chassis Cab) continued to dominate the segment tables with SUV Medium dominating.
"Following the all-time record month of June, the July results were a little more modest but still consistent with the long-term trend of strong monthly sales. Continued strong net immigration, the robust New Zealand dollar and a sturdy local economy remain the key drivers to healthy new vehicle registrations," said MIA CEO David Crawford.
