American Axle & Manufacturing has named Fred Solomon, VP Global Procurement and Supplier Quality Engineering (SQE).

In the role, Solomon has responsibility for AAM’s global procurement activities including supplier quality and performance.

Before joining AAM, Solomon was director, Mopar Purchasing and Supplier Quality, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) and was responsible for all sourcing and supplier quality operations for FCA’s Mopar division. 

Prior to that, he was director, Global Powertrain Purchasing for FCA and director, Global Standardisation and Benchmarking for FCA.

Solomon started his career at American Motors which became part of the Chrysler Corp. During his more than 32-year career at Chrysler/FCA, he held positions of increasing responsibility in manufacturing, supply chain, international, product development and purchasing.

AAM recently reported sales in the first quarter of 2019 of US$1.72bn, compared to US$1.86bn in the first quarter of 2018.
