May 2022 has seen a decrease of 1.9% in the overall hiring activity when compared with April 2022.
IT jobs accounted for a 3.5% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in May 2022, registering a decrease of 0.06% over the last three-month average share.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in North America with a share of 60.55% in May 2022, an 11.72% rise over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in next, claiming a share of 13.41% in May 2022, marking a 7.07% month-on-month decline. In the third place was Computer and Information Research Scientists with a share of 11.22% in May 2022, a 2.14% rise from April 2022.
Miscellaneous Computer Occupations registered a share of 6.04% in May 2022, a 10.47% decline over the previous month.
Top five auto companies in North America’s IT recruitment activity in May 2022
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 3.13% in the overall IT recruitment activity of North America’s auto industry during May 2022 over previous month.
Dana posted 165 IT jobs in May 2022 and registered a decline of 13.61% over the previous month, followed by Ford Motor with 124 jobs and an 11.43% drop. Advance Auto Parts with 105 IT jobs and Tesla with 98 jobs, recorded a 123.4% rise and a flat growth, respectively, while PACCAR recorded a 1.49% increase with 68 job postings during May 2022.
Country-wise composition of IT hiring in North America’s auto industry
The US commanded a leading presence in the region’s auto industry IT hiring activity with a 91.76% share in May 2022, a 5.69% increase over April 2022. Mexico featured next with a 4.78% share, down 6.15% over the previous month. Canada recorded a 3.45% share, a drop of 2.22% compared with April 2022.
Junior Level job postings dominate in May 2022
Junior Level jobs held a share of 64.31%, up by 6.08% from April 2022. Mid Level positions with a 22.59% share, registered a decline of 7.4% compared with the previous month.
In the third place was Entry Level job ads with a 13.1% share, up 27.48% over April 2022.
