North America witnessed a 3.8% drop in IT hiring activity in the auto industry in September 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics dashboard.

September 2022 has seen an increase of 2.58% in the overall hiring activity when compared with August 2022.

IT jobs accounted for a 4.02% share in the industry’s total hiring activity in September 2022, registering a decrease of 0.29% over the last three-month average share.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations leads by classification in September 2022

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers Occupations emerged as the leading IT occupation in North America with a share of 50.75% in September 2022, a 1.35% drop over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in next, claiming a share of 23.09% in September 2022, marking a 4.53% month-on-month decline. In the third place was Computer and Information Research Scientists with a share of 7.97% in September 2022, a 16.36% drop from August 2022.

Computer and Information Analysts registered a share of 7.62% in September 2022, a 13.16% decline over the previous month.

Top five auto companies in North America’s IT recruitment activity in September 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 14.31% in the overall IT recruitment activity of North America’s auto industry during September 2022 over previous month.

Dana posted 452 IT jobs in September 2022 and registered an increase of 22.83% over the previous month, followed by Tesla with 116 jobs and an 11.54% growth. PACCAR with 66 IT jobs and Ford Motor with 51 jobs, recorded an 8.33% drop and a 3.77% drop, respectively, while General Motors recorded an 8.7% increase with 50 job postings during September 2022.

Country-wise composition of IT hiring in North America’s auto industry

The US commanded a leading presence in the region’s auto industry IT hiring activity with a 92.32% share in September 2022, a 5.61% decrease over August 2022. Canada featured next with a 4.39% share, up 13.43% over the previous month. Mexico recorded a 3.29% share, a drop of 58.39% compared with August 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in September 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 62.3%, down by 9.33% from August 2022. Mid Level positions with a 21.88% share, registered a decline of 13.86% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with a 15.7% share, up 1.49% over August 2022.
