The global auto industry noticed a 7.5% rise in IT hiring activity in August 2022 over the previous month, led by Robert Bosch’s 27.28% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.

The auto industry’s overall hiring activity increased 4.35% when compared with July 2022.

Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 7.42% share of the global auto industry’s hiring activity in August 2022, up 0.1% over the last three-month average share.

According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of August 2022 were 5.05% lower when compared with the previous month.

The decrease was a result of 10.9% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive auto IT hiring activity

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 61.11% emerged as the top IT occupation in the auto hiring activity in August 2022, a 61.73% growth over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 18.66% in August 2022, up 10.6% over the previous month.

The other prominent IT roles include Computer and Information Analysts with a 6.94% share in August 2022, a decline of 15.9% over the previous month, and Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 6.85% share in August 2022 and a rise of 40.63% over July 2022.

Top five auto companies by recruitment activity in August 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 171.38% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global auto industry during August 2022 over July 2022.

Robert Bosch posted 1,434 IT jobs in August 2022 and registered a rise of 738.6% over the previous month, followed by Dana with 314 jobs and a 15.14% decline. EDAG Engineering Group with 217 IT jobs and Ningbo Joyson Electronic with 171 jobs, recorded a 2612.5% growth and an 18.18% drop, respectively, while ZF Friedrichshafen recorded an 84.62% rise with 168 job postings during August 2022.

Regional composition of IT hiring in auto industry

Europe emerged as the leading region in the global auto IT hiring activity in August 2022 with a 37.42% share, which marked a 76.57% rise over the previous month.

North America stood next with 32.52%, registering a 13.48% month-on-month growth. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 28.46% share and a 25.29% rise over July 2022.

In the fourth place was Middle East & Africa with a share of 0.86% and a month-on-month rise of 36.36%. South & Central America stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.74%, registering a 39.29% increase over the previous month.
