The global auto industry noticed an 8.5% drop in IT hiring activity in April 2022 over the previous month, led by Robert Bosch’s 9.26% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.

The auto industry’s overall hiring activity declined 7.78% when compared with March 2022.

Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for an 8.85% share of the global auto industry’s hiring activity in April 2022, up 0.23% over the last three-month average share.

According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of April 2022 were 5.38% lower when compared with the previous month.

The decrease was a result of 18.06% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive auto IT hiring activity

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 68.89% emerged as the top IT occupation in the auto hiring activity in April 2022, a 37.72% decline over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 12.88% in April 2022, down 28.72% over the previous month.

The other prominent IT roles include Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 7.85% share in April 2022, a decline of 24.62% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Analysts with a 4.39% share in April 2022 and a drop of 19.41% over March 2022.

Top five auto companies by recruitment activity in April 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 57.12% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global auto industry during April 2022 over March 2022.

Robert Bosch posted 289 IT jobs in April 2022 and registered a drop of 80.96% over the previous month, followed by General Motors with 270 jobs and a 15.36% decline. Tesla with 204 IT jobs and Continental with 193 jobs, recorded a 37.04% decline and a 25.19% drop, respectively, while Ford Motor recorded a 9.88% drop with 155 job postings during April 2022.

Regional composition of IT hiring in auto industry

North America emerged as the leading region in the global auto IT hiring activity in April 2022 with a 44.76% share, which marked a 26.74% drop over the previous month.

Europe stood next with 33.16%, registering a 43.72% month-on-month decline. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 19.42% share and a 35.6% drop over March 2022.

In the fourth place was Middle East & Africa with a share of 1.76% and a month-on-month rise of 66.67%. South & Central America stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.9%, registering a 53.33% decrease over the previous month.
