Canada’s auto industry registered a 3.1% drop in IT hiring activity in October 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring increased by 1.95% in October 2022 when compared with September 2022.

Out of the auto industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 5.95% share in October 2022, recording a decrease of 0.56% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in Canada’s auto industry’s IT recruitment activity in October 2022

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 95.45% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s auto industry in October 2022.

1) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers recorded a share of 43.94% in October 2022, registering a 30.95% decline over the previous month.

2) Database and Network Administrators and Architects claimed an 18.18% share, a decrease of 29.41% over the previous month.

3) Computer Support Specialists held a share of 12.12%, registering a 166.67% rise from September 2022.

4) Computer and Information Analysts captured a share of 12.12%, up 100% over the previous month.

Top five auto companies in Canada’s IT recruitment activity in October 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average decline of 9.76% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s auto industry during October 2022 over September 2022.

BRP posted 12 IT jobs in October 2022 and registered a drop of 45.45% over the previous month, followed by Plastal with 8 jobs and an 11.11% drop. Magna International with 7 IT jobs and Mercedes-Benz Group with 5 jobs, recorded a 16.67% growth and a flat growth, respectively, while Linamar recorded an increase of 25% with 5 job postings during October 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in October 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 75.76%, down by 15.25% from September 2022. Mid Level positions with a 12.12% share, registered a decline of 27.27% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with a 12.12% share, flat growth over September 2022.
