With the NAIAS shifting from January to June, Chicago is the first major US auto show of 2020. Below is a list of world debuts, although some vehicles were revealed at events ahead of the show or else have been seen before but with a different model name to what is used for the US market.

Chevrolet
GM’s biggest selling full sized SUVs become even larger in new generation form. The 2021 Tahoe and Suburban gain independent rear suspension instead of the live axle which had been part of every previous generation, with pneumatic suspension optional. There are three engines, each one paired to a ten-speed automatic gearbox, the GM code of which is 10L80. The engines are a 207kW (277 horsepower) and 623Nm (460 lb-ft) 3.0-litre Duramax-branded in-line six-cylinder diesel, a 265kW (355 horsepower) and 519Nm (383 lb-ft) 5.3-litre gasoline OHV V8 and a 313kW (420 horsepower) and 623Nm (460 lb-ft) 6.2-litre gasoline OHV V8.
In other Chevy news, a facelifted Equinox also premieres. Restyled for the 2021 model year, this SUV also gains an RS model grade which features a lot of blacked-out exterior detailing plus black upholstery with red stitching. US market deliveries will commence in the fourth quarter.

By GlobalDataThe Pacifica is facelifted and also gains the option of all-wheel drive, although the PHEV remains FWD-only. The U-Connect infotainment system is also updated and is now termed fifth generation. That means not only a larger touchscreen and integrated Amazon Alexa but the ability for two phones to be connected simultaneously via Bluetooth. Up to 12 USB Type A and Type C ports now feature too. US market deliveries of the 2021 Pacifica will commence in the fourth quarter but a 2020MY AWD Launch Edition will be available from June.
Ford
The GT gains 13 horsepower as part of 2020 model year changes, the new total being 660. Also, the formerly optional Akrapovic titanium exhaust system becomes standard.
Genesis
The first SUV from Hyundai’s luxury brand is the GV80. Already on sale in South Korea, where it was announced in January, this 5m long rear- and all-wheel drive model is due on US dealers’ lots around mid-year. HMG’s new 3.0-litre straight six diesel won’t be part of the launch range in North America; instead engine choice consists of the new 2.5-litre four-cylinder (Theta 3) and 3.5-litre V6 (Lambda 3) gasoline units. Each has two turbochargers and 48V electrics and sends drive via an HMG-developed eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.
GMC
The rugged AT4 model grade, which has been such a success for the larger Sierra, is now expanded to GMC’s smaller pick-up, the Canyon AT4 pick-up being an addition for the 2021 model year. The Canyon Denali also gains some changes for 2021.
The new generations of the Yukon and Yukon Denali as well as the extended wheelbase Yukon XL and Yukon Denali are due to go into production in May. This will be on the same line at GM’s Arlington Truck plant in Texas as the new Chevy Tahoe and Suburban and Cadillac Escalade.
Kia
Even though the Korean market’s K7 had its second facelift back in June 2019, the Cadenza, which is the same car’s name in North America, is only now gaining the same changes, new for the 2020 model year. The 290hp 3.3-litre V6 is unchanged and the car remains front-wheel drive only.
Mercedes-Benz Vans
The US market Metris (V-Class or Valente in other countries) range gains a variant with a pop-up roof called ‘Weekender‘.
Nissan
The US and Canada’s Frontier dates to 2004 and is in its final model year. The 2020 edition gains a 3.8-litre V6 and a nine-speed automatic gearbox, with Nissan North America also stating that these will be under the hood of the replacement which is coming later in CY2020.
Toyota
The Highlander XSE joins the SUV’s line-up for the 2021 model year. There is no additional power for this sports model grade but the XSE does bring with it different bumpers, a unique grille, special 20-inch wheels and alterations to the suspension tuning and steering. FWD and AWD variants will be available when XSE deliveries commence in October.
Volkswagen
The Atlas is facelifted for the 2021 model year with new bumpers extending the length of this already long SUV by three inches. The 235hp 2.0-litre turbo, 276hp 3.6-litre V6 and eight-speed automatic transmission are unchanged but for the first time, all-wheel drive is available with the four-cylinder engine.
