A recently granted patent (Publication Number: US11772546B2) describes a light system for vehicles that is designed to illuminate gaps in the vehicle. The system includes a housing with a glue bucket, a glue leg, and a light guide located between them. The light guide guides light from the light source into the glue leg and across the gap, illuminating the entire gap.

The light system is designed to cover the gap with light, with a first portion of light on one side of the gap and a second portion on the other side. The light extends from both sides towards the center, ensuring that the entire gap is illuminated.

The light system provides light in a direction that is substantially normal to the housing, but the light from the light guide extends at an angle of about 15 degrees or more and about 90 degrees or less relative to the direction of the housing. This allows for optimal illumination of the gap.

The light guide can be a lens in communication with a light emitting diode (LED) or a light pipe with an LED at the end. The lens can be made of various materials such as polycarbonate, polymethyl methacrylate, nylon, or a combination thereof. The glue bucket contains glue, which can be fully or partially transparent, allowing the light to pass through and illuminate the glue leg.

The housing may include a through hole or opening near the gap, directing the light through the hole or opening and across the gap. The glue leg extends out of the hole or opening, ensuring that the light from the glue leg is also directed across the gap.

The glue bucket and housing can be made opaque or include a light blocker or exterior painting to prevent unwanted light from extending to other regions. This ensures that the light is focused only on the gap.

In an alternative embodiment, the light system includes an adhesive that surrounds the light guide within the glue bucket. The adhesive is transparent and partially or fully surrounds the light guide, allowing the light to extend through the adhesive and across the gap. The adhesive can also include coloring to emit light of a different color.

Overall, this patented light system provides an efficient and effective way to illuminate gaps in vehicles, ensuring visibility and safety.
