A recently granted patent (Publication Number: US11772767B2) describes an innovative design for an outboard motor. The motor includes an engine, a propeller shaft, and a drive shaft that transmits power from the engine to the propeller shaft. A gear device is also included, which consists of a drive gear, a forward gear, and a reverse gear. A shift device allows for the selection of either the forward or reverse gear to set the rotation direction of the propeller shaft.

The motor is housed in a case that accommodates the gear device and the shift device. Within the case, there is a gear chamber and a shift chamber, as well as an oil circulation mechanism. The oil circulation mechanism includes an oil passage that allows for the flow of oil between the gear chamber and the shift chamber.

The design features a circular recessed portion on the upper wall surface of the gear chamber, which accommodates the drive gear. Adjacent to this circular recessed portion is a rectangular recessed portion that communicates with the circular recessed portion. The rectangular recessed portion has three side wall surfaces, with the outlet of the oil passage located on the first side wall surface.

In another aspect of the design, the outlet of the oil passage and the rectangular recessed portion are positioned above the area where the drive gear and the forward gear mesh with each other.

Additionally, the rectangular recessed portion serves as a working seat for the installation of a tool used in the processing of forming the oil passage.

Overall, this patented outboard motor design offers improved oil circulation and efficient transmission of power from the engine to the propeller shaft. The specific arrangement of the gear chamber, shift chamber, and oil passage allows for effective lubrication and cooling of the gears, enhancing the motor's performance and longevity.
