A recently granted patent (Publication Number: US11772120B2) describes an apparatus for dispensing adhesive. The apparatus includes a mix applicator with a mix applicator bore that allows adhesive to flow through it. The mix applicator has a receiving portion and can be inserted into a mix head. The mix head has a mix head bore that extends through it and is configured to dispense the adhesive in a ribbon shape. A lock member is provided to retain the mix head onto the mix applicator by engaging the receiving portion.

The lock member is movable relative to the mix head, allowing the mix head to be removed from the mix applicator when necessary. The mix head also features a divider located in the middle of the mix head bore, which directs the adhesive towards the opposite ends of the dispensed ribbon shape. Importantly, the divider is spaced from the distal tip of the mix head, ensuring it does not interfere with the dispensing process.

The distal tip of the mix head is chamfered, which may aid in the smooth and precise dispensing of the adhesive. The receiving portion of the mix applicator is defined on its exterior surface and includes a projection that extends from it. The lock member engages this projection to retain the mix head onto the mix applicator. The projection extends 360 degrees around the mix applicator central axis, ensuring a secure connection.

The lock member itself consists of a base and two tines that extend from it. The receiving portion of the mix applicator is located between these two tines when the lock member engages, further securing the mix head onto the mix applicator. Additionally, the mix head has two holes in its exterior surface where the lock member is located when engaged.

The mix head bore has a square-shaped cross-section at its proximal end, transitioning to a circular shape and then to a fan shape. This design may contribute to the efficient and controlled dispensing of the adhesive. The mix applicator bore, on the other hand, has a circular cross-sectional shape that varies in diameter along its length. A helical member is located within a portion of the mix applicator bore.

The apparatus also includes an adhesive pump that engages the mix applicator, allowing the adhesive to be dispensed into the mix applicator bore. The exit of the mix head bore, from which the adhesive is dispensed, has an area at least five times larger than the exit of the mix applicator bore, ensuring a smooth and consistent flow of adhesive.

Overall, this patented apparatus offers a secure and efficient solution for dispensing adhesive in a controlled manner, with features such as a lock member, chamfered tip, and specialized bore shapes contributing to its functionality.
