If you’re heading to Paris for the motor show next month, or even if not, may I recommend the show preview we published this week as a management briefing? This second key show on the European calendar promises many new models and we’ll be there in force (next week) to cover them and speak to key industry players.

Our analysis of Jaguar’s new industrial strategy surrounding the launch of the new XE sedan was popular with readers this week. And parent company JLR’s announcement it hired nearly 300 new graduates should put a smile on the face of SMMT chief executive Mike Hawes who fronts the UK industry’s campaign to lure more young people into the good jobs our autobiz has on offer.

Ford Americas chief Joe Hinrichs appeared to have side-stepped his PR minders with a prediction during a CNBC TV interview that 2015 could see US light vehicle sales return to the heady 17m-unit days last enjoyed as long ago as 2001. We’ll hear some (more official) additional comment on that on Monday.

Hinrichs was speaking after Ford announced another 1,200 jobs (an extra shift) at its Kansas City Transit van and F-series truck-building plant, adding that it had already met its earlier commitment to the US UAW union – 12,000 new jobs by 2015 – ahead of schedule.

Good news like that is always welcome.

Have a nice weekend.
