Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne has had enough trouble with unions lately, and now, as I write, Fiat is struggling with the logistics nightmare of a truckers strike that seems to be bringing Italy to a halt.
There’s an earlier report here and a comment piece by our own Simon Warburton who has long covered Fiat v unions for us. The new TV ad to which he refers, BTW, is here.
There were also some encouraging signs that all is not entirely lost at Saab though any resurrection will clearly not be in a form as we knew it. It was good to hear that a co-operative bid including the city of Trollhattan has secured the museum and its collection of Saabs back to Car #1 which is a better fate for such a classic car collection than auction at the hands of receivers.
Otherwise, the week was a really mixed bag – EV maker Fisker lowered its forecast for 2012; it looked like US sales might be falling again; more news leaked out about BMW’s plans for South America and Nissan announced a new plant for Mexico (since leading to speculation of new partner Damiler’s role in all this).
This early in, 2012’s shaping up to be an interesting year…
Have a nice weekend.
