The atmosphere this week during press days at the annual Geneva motor show was pretty positive this year with a welcome return of some real supercars, such as a four-wheel drive Ferrari and a new Lamborghini, while the polar bear savers should have been happy with numerous hybrids, EVs and such things as a 336PS Range Rover Sport diesel plug-in hybrid that emits just 89g of CO2s, as Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson likes to put it.
Land Rover was also in news from China this week, not happy over the registration of a name which, as far as we could establish, hasn’t yet been used on a vehicle.
Speaking of Top Gear, we learned, at Geneva, that having your car selected for their Star in a Reasonably Priced Car segment is no bad thing.
We had news and comment on GM’s Akerson/Reilly double act – roll up, roll up, see the amazing leadership duo – and our very busy Simon Warburton also found time to chat with De Tomaso and Kia UK’s top man. The Koreans themselves were rather busy in Geneva, rolling out some new, super fuel-efficient Kias and reiterating that, unlike the Mini Clubman, the right-hand drive Veloster will, repeat will, have that one rear passenger door on our kerb side.
Also on the subject of rear doors, the Ford B-Max ‘concept’, so production-ready looking it has to be the (European) Fusion replacement, has interesting twin sliding rear doors and clever look-ma-no-B-pillar body engineering. I reckon it’ll be a hit with young families in particular. Including mine.
