The boffins at Jaguar Land Rover revealed this week that they have come up with something akin to an on-board assistant built into your car. This is taking thing a little bit further than advanced driver assistance systems and driver set-ups. Your car will remind you about things and help you out when you are late. It’s quite a vision.

Still on advanced technologies, I enjoyed this neat summary of just why being involved with Formula E would appeal to a tyre manufacturer (Michelin).

And we heard today about an F1 team’s company dipping its toes into advanced technologies for automotive applications, among others. Intriguing. The UK prime minister couldn’t resist appearing in that good news story.

UK: Prime Minister opens Williams’ new engineering facility

Advanced technologies behind the news? Well, it would appear that ZF is interested in acquiring US-based Tier 1 TRW. TRW is very well placed with products and expertise in the high-growth area of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). Combining that with ZF’s existing business would create a very big global supplier. TRW, it would seem, could well be ripe for a takeover. Watch that space.

Besides Williams, there was another good news story for the UK last week when we learned of jobs being added at GM’s Vauxhall manufacturing operations.

Which reminds me of a nice little clip on YouTube.

Have a nice weekend,
