Toyota USA#;s financial services operation has opened a new customer service centre in Owings Mills, near Baltimore in Maryland.
The new facility, which will employ approximately 420 associates with an annual payroll of $US10 million, is one of three centres in the US that will serve more than 1.9 million Toyota and Lexus loan and lease customers.
As is customary at the opening of such facilities, the company donated to a worthy cause: in this case a Sienna minivan and $25,000 went to the Baltimore County Public Schools Education Foundation.
The East Coast facility, occupying approximately 100,000 square feet of leased space, joins an existing service centre located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and another recently opened in Chandler, Arizona.
The two new centres are part of a restructuring aimed at improving customer and dealer satisfaction and, when all three are fully operational, customers will be able to reach representatives from 7 am New York time to 7 pm in Los Angeles.
The Owings Mills centre expects to service approximately 625,000 loan and lease customers, handle an estimated 5.1 million incoming and outgoing customer and dealer calls, and sort through nearly 500,000 pieces of mail per year.
