General Motors do Brasil set a monthly sales record in April for its unique, locally-made Chevrolet Celta, the world’s best-selling car on the Internet, writes Rogério Louro.


GM sold 10,033 Celtas in April and also set an Internet sales record of 7,933 units or 79.1 percent of volume.


The Celta was launched in Brazil in September 2000 and 146,725 have been sold to date with 103,232 units or 70.3 percent retailed on the Internet.


GM will launch a Celta five-door hatchback in the next few months. Until now the model, which is based on the previous Opel Corsa, has been built only with three doors.
