The Renault Laguna was elected Car of the Year by a jury of 17 motoring journalists who awarded it 120 points ahead of the Ford Mondeo (115) and Peugeot 307 (107). Also highly rated were the Honda Civic, Alfa-Romeo 147 and Citroen C5.

The contest was organized by Estonian magazine Tehnikamaailm whose reader favourite was the Peugeot 307. The women#;s magazine Anna awarded a special prize to the Alfa Romeo 147.
