Sales of new cars continued to hit record levels in June, according to the latest figures from the Society of Irish Motor Industry.
There was slight drop in the month, from 27,026 in May to 22,845 in June, but the total of new car registrations for the first six months of the year came to 179,527, a 45pc increase on the previous year.

Sales of light commercial vehicles were also up. Sales in June were 4,165, representing a rise of 44pc, while in the first six months of the year 27,481 vehicles were sold, an increase of 30pc.
