The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) yesterday announced a series of recalls including:
71,677 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokees with a refuelling vapour recovery control valve that can become detached and leak after a crash;

55,505 1999-2001 Land Rover Discovery II SUVs with faulty ABS systems and 64,925 1999-2002 versions with weakened accelerator cables;
273,743 1996-1998 Toyota 4Runners to replace rear suspension parts;
311,047 1998-2000 Volkswagen Passats and 1997-1999 Jettas for fuel filler neck modifications. Volkswagen is also recalling 55,000 2001-2002 Beetles, Jettas and Golfs to replace faulty ABS units.
