Nissan is planning to exploit the weakness of the yen to increase exports from Japan, according to a Nikkei report.

The report said that Nissan plans to raise annual domestic production by at least 100,000 units. It also said that it is considering resuming output of the Rogue sport utility vehicle for North America at its Kyushu plant in Kanda, Fukuoka Prefecture.

The Rogue is the product of a joint initiative with Alliance partner Renault to increase sharing of parts across models in the same class and the car can be flexibly built at plants around the world.

The Nikkei report said that string sales for Nissan in the US and the weak yen are prompting the company to raise output in Japan rather than invest in new capacity in North America. It may also make other export models at the Kyushu plant, the report added.

The report also said that the company is also considering making some compacts at its Oppama plant in Kanagawa Prefecture to complement supply overseas.
