Honda Motor said it was recalling around 2.7m vehicles in North America for potentially defective airbag inflators manufactured by the now bankrupt Takata Corporation.
This is expected to be one of the final recalls for Honda in what has become the largest recall in automotive history, with over 120m vehicles recalled globally over the last five years, including 42m in the US alone.

This latest recall involves 2.4m Honda and Acura models in the US and 300,000 in Canada produced between 1996 and 2003. Honda said it was aware of the rupture of one inflator in its latest recall campaign, during a crash in Texas in 2012 which resulted in one injury, and two separate incidents in junkyards in Japan.
Honda said all three vehicles were understood to have been "exposed to unusually high amounts of moisture prior to the rupture events".
Separately, Toyota announced it was recalling 3.4m vehicles worldwide because of an electronic glitch that may result in air bags not deploying in crashes.
The recall includes 2.9m vehicles in the US, including Corolla sedan models produced between 2011 and 2019; Matrix models produced between 2011 and 2013; and Avalon/Avalon Hybrid models made between 2012 and 2018.
