Honda Cars Philippines (HCPI), which assembles the BR-V and City passenger cars will end output at its plant in Santa Rosa, Laguna, during March 2020.

HCPI will continue automobile sales and aftersales service in the Philippines using Honda's Asia and Oceania regional network.

The assembly plant employs 650.

Almost exactly a year ago, Honda said it would restructure its global manufacturing network and shut its UK manufacturing facilities at Swindon in 2021.

It would also cease manufacturing in Turkey and look to consolidate future production at plants in North America and Japan.

The company said the restructure cames as it "accelerates its commitment to electrified cars, in response to the unprecedented changes in the global automotive industry".

It added the "significant challenges of electrification would see Honda revise its global manufacturing operations, and focus activity in regions where it expects to have high production volumes".
