New vehicle sales in Vietnam continued to surge ahead in June, with deliveries jumping by 59% to 17,283 units from 10,868 units a year earlier, according to data released by the Vietnam Automotive Manufacturers Association.

First half sales increased by close to 67% to 91,711 units, from 55,007 units previously, reflecting strong economic growth estimated at 6.3% in this period – driven by strong domestic consumption, investment and exports.

Cumulative sales of passenger cars, SUVs and MPVs combined increased by over 60% to 51,348, from 32,011 previously. Commercial vehicle sales rose by over 75% to 40,363 units, from 22,996 units.

Toyota was the leading brand over the six-month period, with sales rising by over 38% to 23,030 units. Local Truong Hai (Thaco) group, which has a number of brands in its portfolio including Kia, Mazda, Peugeot and some less-known commercial vehicles, reported a 93% rise in overall sales to 34,593 units in this period.

Ford’s cumulative sales increased by 70% to 8,952 units, while Honda’s sales were up by 16% at 3,744 units.
