Production of around 1,500 face shields a month has started at Mitsubishi Motors' Okazaki Plant in Japan's Aichi Prefecture and other unspecified facilities, and the automaker had donated them to the city of Okazaki.
Another production site, Pajero Manufacturing, in Gifu Prefecture, also donated face shields to a hospital in Minokamo City, Gifu Prefecture.
MMC will also donate shields in Okayama Prefecture, where its Mizushima Plant is located.
It said it planned to ramp up face shield production and produce other products such as face masks.
MMC said earlier it expected to book a JPY26bn (US$242m) net loss for the current fiscal year ending 31 March 2021 after forecasting a net profit of JPY5bn last November, as revenue continued to fall sharply due to the COVID19 coronavirus pandemic.
The carmaker also revised down its net sales forecast for the current fiscal year by 7.3% from its previous forecast to JPY2,270bn.
This month it suspended production at Mizushima for almost three weeks, from 6 April, while Okazaki was shuttered for two weeks from 9 April and the wholly-owned Pajero Manufacturing was closed for a week from 13 April.
