Mitsubishi Motors Europe (MME), currently reorganising and expanding its Netherlands based operations, boosted calendar year 2018 sales 19% year on year to 165,259 vehicles.
The automaker sells in 33 European markets and sales rose the most in France – by 64% to 7,303 units followed by Poland (+48%; 5,894) and Switzerland (+46%; 4,799).
Germany remained MME's biggest market with sales up 15% to 52,196 units, the UK (+17%; 30,952) and Spain (+24%; 13,431).
Last year was the first since 2000 that MME passed the 50,000 sales mark in Germany.
The Space Star/Mirage was top selling model with sales up 19% to 36,031 units followed by the ageing ASK, down 20% to 32,362 with the new Eclipse Cross third with 27,279 sales in its debut year.
Outlander PHEV volume was up 27% to 24,415 after the 2019 model year launch late last summer – with its 46 g/km of CO2 emissions it is, MME said, "one of the very few SUVs able to clear the new WLTP EU testing protocol whilst a majority of competitors were withdrawn from the European market altogether".
